Concept and design. Thisisnotparis / Maaike Gottschal. Maaike wanted to archive her work for the Arnhem Fashion Biannual. Were she asked the public: Can a non fashionable place as the Arnhem library be the source for a fashion reader and an installation ? A collection of photo’s of visitors of the library in a ‘reading pose’ is point of inspiration for a cat-walk, an acquisition proposal. The idea was to go back when fashion magazines still we’re searching for their form and fashion language. To create a new beginning where form and content could evolve into its own language. Contributions by o.a Natascha Hagenbeek, Roma Pas, Sara ten Westenend. The magazine is inspired by the first fashion magazine ever that is written by the poet Mallarmé.
Mallarmé on Fashion: A Translation of the Fashion Magazine La Dernière Mode
In 1874, the great French poet, Stephane Mallarme, undertook a highly idiosyncratic project – the publication of a fashion magazine (La Derniere Mode). With artwork and a contextualizing introduction and commentary, this work presents a translation of one of French literatures greatest puzzles and surprises.
